In a shocking incident in Sargodha, a man has allegedly confessed to murdering six members of his own family, including his wife and five children, over suspicions related to honor. The brutal killings occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bhagtanwala police station at Chak no 25 Sb, with police confirming the details on Monday.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The accused, identified as Yasin Mallah, admitted to the horrific crime, which claimed the lives of his wife, daughter, and four sons. Following the murders, Yasin Mallah attempted to commit suicide and was rushed to a hospital. Authorities have reported that his condition is now stable and out of danger.
Initial police investigations suggest that the motive behind the killings stemmed from Yasin Mallah's suspicions regarding his wife and daughter having illicit relations with a man named Ghulam Mustafa, who resides in the same locality. This tragic event highlights the severe consequences of honor-based violence in the region.
Discovery and Police Response
The incident was brought to light when a citizen named Rashid, along with the accused's brother Sarfaraz, scaled the wall of the house to investigate. They discovered the victims' bodies in a room and found Yasin Mallah lying injured in the courtyard. Police were immediately notified, and a swift response ensued.
According to a police spokesperson, Yasin Mallah had also contacted a friend named Khalid prior to his suicide attempt, informing him of the murders. This communication provided additional context for the investigation.
Evidence and Legal Actions
At the crime scene, police recovered several murder weapons, including an axe, a knife, and a hammer. These items have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Furthermore, Ghulam Mustafa, the individual implicated in the suspicions, has been detained by police for interrogation to determine his involvement, if any.
A formal case has been registered against Yasin Mallah, and authorities are committed to ensuring justice is served. District Police Officer Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf emphasized that all elements connected to this tragedy will face strict legal action, underscoring the seriousness with which such crimes are being addressed.
This case serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for awareness and enforcement of laws against honor killings and domestic violence in Pakistan.
