Punjab Food Authority Intensifies Food Safety Operations in Chiniot District
In a decisive move to safeguard public health, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has launched extensive inspection operations across the Chiniot district. Acting on special directives from the Director General, food safety teams are conducting rigorous checks to curb violations and ensure the supply of safe and hygienic food to consumers.
Comprehensive Inspections Uncover Serious Violations
Deputy Director Operations Dr. Qasim Raza, in an exclusive conversation with APP on Wednesday, disclosed that during the crackdown, a total of 113 food-related businesses were thoroughly inspected. This included a detailed examination of 43 milk transport vehicles, highlighting the authority's focus on all segments of the food supply chain.
As a result of these inspections, cumulative fines amounting to Rs 75,000 were imposed on violators found guilty of serious breaches of food safety laws. Dr. Raza emphasized that the operations revealed alarmingly poor sanitation conditions and substandard storage arrangements at several outlets.
Health Risks Identified and Addressed
The inspections also detected the use of prohibited ingredients and non-food grade equipment, which pose significant risks to public health. In response, enforcement teams took immediate action by recovering and promptly destroying 25 liters of expired cold drinks along with more than two kilograms of expired food items from various grocery stores.
This swift disposal underscores the PFA's commitment to removing hazardous products from the market and protecting consumers from potential health hazards.
Ongoing Vigilance and Strict Enforcement
Dr. Qasim Raza reiterated that such operations will continue vigorously across the district. He stressed that no compromise will be made on public health, and strict action will be taken against those flouting food safety regulations.
The PFA's proactive approach aims to foster a culture of compliance and accountability among food businesses, ensuring that safety standards are upheld at all times.
