In a significant step to bolster law enforcement effectiveness, the Islamabad police have initiated a formal request to the Pakistan Army for specialized training by its elite commandos. This move aims to address the increasing security and policing challenges in the capital city by enhancing the skills and performance of police personnel.
Formal Request for Army Assistance
According to official details, the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad police has submitted a formal request to the Pakistan Army. The request seeks to place two Pakistan Army Majors and 16 Special Service Group (SSG) commandos on a 'secondment' basis at the disposal of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police. These positions will fill existing vacant posts within the police force.
Training Allocation and Objectives
Out of the 16 SSG-trained personnel, 10 will be specifically attached to the National Police Academy in Islamabad. This allocation is intended to provide advanced training not only to serving Islamabad police officers but also to under-training Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs). The goal is to improve overall operational capabilities and readiness in response to evolving security threats.
The January 16 letter, written by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) on behalf of the IG, emphasizes the necessity of this collaboration. It states, "It is therefore requested that quarters concerned may kindly be approached for placing the services of two majors and 16 SSG-trained officials of Pakistan Army on secondment basis at the disposal of ICT police against the existing vacant posts. Out of these 16 SSG-trained personnel, 10 will be attached with the National Police Academy, Islamabad."
Addressing Capital Security Challenges
Authorities have highlighted that the security and policing challenges in Islamabad have grown in complexity, necessitating improved law enforcement capabilities. By integrating Army commandos into training programs, the police aim to leverage military expertise to enhance tactical skills, crisis management, and overall performance in daily operations.
This initiative reflects a proactive approach to strengthening public safety and ensuring that Islamabad police are well-equipped to handle modern security demands. The collaboration between civilian law enforcement and military forces is expected to yield significant benefits in maintaining order and protecting citizens.
