IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar Announces Major Housing Initiative for Police Martyrs' Families
In a significant move to honor the sacrifices of law enforcement personnel, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has unveiled a comprehensive plan for the welfare of families of police martyrs who lost their lives before 2017. The announcement was made during a ceremony held at the Central Police Office in Lahore, where Dr. Anwar emphasized the ongoing commitment of Punjab Police to support these families.
Construction of 200 New Houses and Financial Support
Dr. Usman Anwar announced the commencement of construction for 200 new houses this year, specifically for the families of police martyrs who embraced martyrdom prior to 2017. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the housing needs of these families, ensuring they have secure and dignified living conditions.
During the ceremony, cheques worth 13 million rupees were distributed among the families of 26 police martyrs, with each family receiving 500,000 rupees to aid in house construction. This financial assistance is a direct result of the enhanced support from the Punjab government.
Increased Endowment Fund and Previous Allocations
The Punjab Police spokesperson revealed that the Endowment Fund, established for constructing houses for families of police martyrs before 2017, has been increased by 500 million rupees. This substantial boost aims to accelerate the housing projects and provide more comprehensive support.
To date, Punjab Police has allocated 91.5 million rupees from its own resources for this cause. Additionally, plots have already been provided for the construction of houses to the families of 737 police martyrs who died before 2017, with families of 22 police martyrs already residing in houses built through the Punjab Police Endowment Fund.
Gratitude to Chief Minister and Broader Welfare Measures
Dr. Usman Anwar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, for the significant increase in the martyrs' package. He highlighted that addressing the difficulties of police martyrs' families remains the top priority of Punjab Police, describing these martyrs as a source of pride for the nation.
Beyond housing, the welfare measures extend to education. Dr. Anwar mentioned that scholarships are being provided to the children of martyrs for higher education abroad, and agreements have been made with well-known educational institutions to ensure access to quality education, further supporting the families' long-term well-being.
Ceremony Attendees and Commitment to Welfare
The ceremony was attended by senior police officers, including Additional IG Punjab Imran Arshad, DIG Welfare and Finance Zeeshan Asghar, and AIG Welfare Nasir Ali Bajwa, underscoring the collective commitment of Punjab Police to this cause. Dr. Usman Anwar reiterated that the police force is dedicated to continuing such initiatives to honor the sacrifices made by their fallen colleagues and to provide sustained support to their families.
