ANF Conducts Major Drug Destruction Ceremony in Sheikhupura
The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) held its annual drug disposal ceremony in Sheikhupura, where authorities destroyed a massive haul of illicit substances. More than 18 tonnes of various narcotics and over 169,000 litres of liquor were incinerated during the event, marking a significant blow to drug trafficking networks in the region.
Substances Destroyed and Environmental Measures
The confiscated materials included a wide array of dangerous drugs such as hashish, heroin, crystal meth (commonly known as ice), poppy husk, and cannabis, alongside the large quantity of liquor. In a move to prioritize environmental protection, the ANF utilized a modern industrial incinerator for the destruction process. This method was specifically chosen to minimize pollution and ensure that the disposal did not harm the local ecosystem, reflecting a commitment to sustainable practices in law enforcement operations.
Distinguished Attendees and Annual Statistics
The ceremony was attended by high-profile officials and dignitaries, including the Regional Director of ANF Punjab, the Director General of CNF Punjab, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Sheikhupura, the Bishop of Lahore, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of South Asia. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort between law enforcement, religious institutions, and educational bodies in combating drug abuse.
During the current year, ANF Punjab has been highly active in its anti-narcotics campaign. The force arrested 590 drug traffickers and registered 463 cases against them. Courts have handed down severe sentences, with 35 high-profile traffickers receiving life imprisonment and 132 others being given rigorous prison terms. These actions demonstrate the judicial system's strong stance against drug-related crimes.
Preventive Campaigns and Awareness Initiatives
In addition to enforcement actions, the ANF has focused on prevention through education. The force conducted anti-drug awareness seminars in more than 1,000 educational institutions, including colleges and universities, across Punjab. These seminars aim to educate young people about the dangers of narcotics and promote a drug-free lifestyle, highlighting the ANF's comprehensive approach that combines suppression with prevention.
The annual drug destruction ceremony in Sheikhupura serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Pakistan. By destroying such large quantities of narcotics and liquor, the ANF not only disrupts the supply chain but also sends a clear message about the consequences of involvement in the drug trade. The use of eco-friendly incineration methods further emphasizes the importance of environmental responsibility in these operations.
