Death Sentences and Heavy Fines Handed Down
Two sessions courts in Rawalpindi district have awarded severe punishments, including death sentences and heavy fines, to four convicts in two separate murder cases registered at Chontra and Chakri police stations, according to judicial officials.
Chontra Police Station Case
Additional District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi sentenced two convicts, Zulfiqar and Iftikhar, to death and imposed a fine of Rs2 million each in a murder case registered at Chontra Police Station. Another convict in the same case, Gulbaz, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs500,000 and compensation of Rs200,000.
The court found that the convicts had killed one person and injured another in the Chontra area in October 2021 over an old enmity. The prosecution presented strong evidence, including witness testimonies and forensic reports, leading to the convictions.
Chakri Police Station Case
In a separate case registered at Chakri Police Station, convicts Iftikhar and Gulbaz were awarded death sentences and fined Rs2 million each. The incident occurred in September 2022 in Chakri, where the convicts killed another person. The court noted that the crime was premeditated and brutal.
The court awarded the punishments on the basis of strong evidence and effective prosecution. The judge remarked that the severity of the sentences reflects the gravity of the crimes and serves as a deterrent to others.
Legal Proceedings and Impact
Both trials were concluded within a reasonable timeframe, with the courts ensuring due process. The convicts have the right to appeal the verdicts in higher courts. The families of the victims expressed satisfaction with the rulings, hoping that justice has been served.
