Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday paid tribute to renowned humanitarian and social figure Abdul Sattar Edhi on his 10th death anniversary, stating that personalities like him continue to inspire the younger generation to work for the betterment of society.
Edhi's legacy of selfless service
In his message marking the occasion, the prime minister said the late Edhi demonstrated that every individual has the ability to make a meaningful contribution to social change through selfless service. Praising his lifelong humanitarian work, Shehbaz Sharif described Abdul Sattar Edhi as a source of pride for the nation and a priceless national asset whose dedication to public welfare earned him respect both at home and abroad.
The prime minister emphasized that Edhi's unwavering commitment to helping those in need highlighted the importance of compassion and community-driven solutions, adding that his remarkable contributions remain an integral part of Pakistan's social history.
Promoting values of kindness and tolerance
Shehbaz Sharif further said Edhi's legacy played a vital role in promoting values such as kindness, tolerance, empathy and social harmony across the country. Offering prayers for the departed soul, he asserted that Abdul Sattar Edhi's selfless service to humanity will always be remembered and continue to inspire future generations.
Abdul Sattar Edhi, who passed away on July 8, 2016, founded the Edhi Foundation, one of the largest social welfare organizations in Pakistan. His work included running ambulances, orphanages, shelters, and hospitals, serving millions regardless of religion or ethnicity.
