The event took place at the Diplomatic Club, drawing a distinguished audience that included various ministers, undersecretaries, dignitaries, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Oman. Officials from the Omani Foreign Ministry and representatives from the private sector also attended, according to the Oman News Agency.
Ambassador Highlights Decades of Cooperation
Ana Escrogima, the US ambassador to Oman, addressed the gathering, stating that the fruitful cooperation between the two countries was built over decades and has contributed to enhancing security and prosperity in the region and across the globe. Her remarks underscored the enduring nature of the bilateral relationship.
Film Showcases Key Milestones
A short film titled “From the Sea to the Stars” illuminated the evolution of US-Omani relations, showcasing key historic milestones. The first major milestone was the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1833, which established formal ties. A later milestone occurred in 1958 when the Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations, and Consular Rights was signed in Salalah. Following this, the US opened its embassy in the capital, Muscat, in 1972, and Oman opened its embassy in Washington, D.C., the following year.
Historic Significance
Oman was one of the first Arab Gulf countries with which the US signed an accord in the 19th century, according to the US Embassy Oman website. This long-standing relationship has been a cornerstone of regional stability and mutual prosperity.
