Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to attend the Iran-United States agreement signing ceremony, according to official sources, as a high-level delegation will accompany him to Geneva. Sources said the ceremony of the Iran-US agreement will be held in Geneva, where an initial memorandum of understanding will be signed on Friday. Following this, negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme, easing of sanctions and other key issues will continue for 60 days.
Key Provisions of the Agreement
According to Arab media, under the initial agreement, military operations on all fronts will be halted and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz will be restored. However, some US lawmakers have warned that differing interpretations of the deal by both sides could lead to future disputes.
US President's Remarks
It is worth mentioning that US President Donald Trump congratulated both sides, stating that the agreement with Iran has been finalized. In his statement, he said that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports has been lifted and global shipping activity should resume. He further said that oil supply routes will be restored and the Strait of Hormuz will reopen after the ceasefire signing on Friday. He also added that efforts will be made to clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines as part of the agreement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said a deal between the US and Iran to end the war has been reached. Swiss voters reject 10 million population cap, early projections say.
