Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni held detailed talks in Islamabad on Wednesday, focusing on bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation. Both sides expressed satisfaction over recent diplomatic efforts that have contributed to easing tensions in the Middle East.

Key Outcomes of the Meeting

According to a statement issued by the Interior Ministry, the two ministers discussed Pakistan-Iran ties and recent regional developments following the US-Iran agreement reached after high-level discussions in Switzerland under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The meeting underscored the importance of continued diplomatic engagement.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Naqvi congratulated the Iranian minister on the joint statement issued after the US-Iran talks, describing it as the result of sincere diplomatic efforts. He reiterated that Pakistan had consistently advocated peace and stability and would continue supporting initiatives aimed at securing lasting peace in the Middle East.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in security, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and immigration-related matters. Momeni expressed his desire to visit Pakistan in the near future to further enhance coordination between the interior ministries of the two countries.

Regional Context and Future Prospects

The Iranian minister appreciated Pakistan's role in promoting dialogue and regional understanding, the statement added. Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said Pakistan and Iran would stand as an “iron wall” against forces seeking to undermine regional peace, while President Pezeshkian called for greater unity among Muslim countries and the development of a new regional security framework during his visit to Pakistan.

The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and underscores both countries' commitment to regional stability through diplomatic channels.
