China Urges US-Iran Talks for Comprehensive Solution

China on Wednesday urged the United States and Iran to advance negotiations toward a comprehensive solution to the conflict, calling for an early lifting of unilateral sanctions on Iran.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing “has always believed that unilateral sanctions on Iran should be lifted at an early date.” He added, “We hope the US and Iran will jointly implement the (Islamabad) Memorandum of Understanding which has already been signed and move negotiations forward to promote a comprehensive solution… at an early date.”

Qatar Hosts Separate Talks

The statement came as Qatar was hosting US and Iranian delegations for separate talks on Tuesday and Wednesday. The White House envoys traveled to Doha after US President Donald Trump announced Monday that Iran had requested a meeting in the Qatari capital. Iran, however, denied that any direct talks with Washington are scheduled, while saying consultations with intermediaries continue.

China’s Stance on Sanctions

China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions against Iran, advocating for dialogue and diplomacy. The call for implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed earlier, underscores Beijing’s role in facilitating communication between the two sides.

The development highlights ongoing international efforts to address the Iranian nuclear issue and regional tensions, with China positioning itself as a mediator urging a comprehensive resolution.
