Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared on Saturday that ensuring the timely completion of federally funded development projects in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and addressing public grievances stand as the top priorities for his government.
High-Level Meeting on K-P Affairs
During a significant meeting with political representatives from the province in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized that the federal government is "fully aware" of the challenges confronting the people of K-P. He affirmed that tangible steps are being taken within the federal jurisdiction to devise sustainable solutions.
The gathering, detailed in a statement from the PM Office Media Wing, involved a comprehensive review of the overall political situation in K-P, public welfare matters, development initiatives, and governance issues.
Criticism of Provincial Governance and Federal Action
Attendees at the meeting presented a stark assessment of the provincial government's performance. They collectively claimed it had "failed entirely" due to poor governance, citing a lack of clear policies in crucial sectors like health, education, and infrastructure, and neglect in resolving public issues.
In response to these concerns, Prime Minister Sharif announced a major step: the formation of a special committee headed by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal. This committee's mandate is to visit Peshawar, coordinate with local public representatives, and review the progress on all federally sponsored uplift projects in the province to ensure their acceleration.
Focus on Youth and Merit
Reflecting on a recent event, the Prime Minister highlighted the merit-based distribution of laptops to male and female students from K-P in Haripur. He expressed his pleasure in interacting with the youth, describing them as Pakistan's future asset.
He stressed that the policy of distributing laptops purely on merit would continue, empowering young people to contribute effectively to national development.
Prime Minister Sharif urged all public representatives to make the resolution of people's problems their foremost duty. The meeting was attended by a host of senior federal figures and K-P representatives, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Minister Amir Muqam, among others.
