At least two children were killed and more than 20 people injured in separate lightning strike incidents in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, officials confirmed.
Landi Kotal Incident: Two Children Dead
In Khyber district, lightning struck a house in the Zakhak Hail Bazaar area of Landi Kotal, killing two children and injuring other family members. Assistant Sub-Inspector Azmat Wali of Landi Kotal Police Station confirmed the deaths, stating the lightning struck a home in the morning. He said two children were killed while two others were injured. The house was also damaged in the strike, and all those injured belonged to the same family. Residents launched rescue efforts and took the injured to a nearby hospital, with one of the injured in critical condition. Police and other authorities were assessing the damage and gathering further details, while condolences were offered to the bereaved family.
Upper Dir Seminary Incident: 20 Students Injured
In a separate incident, lightning struck a women's seminary in the Wahri area of Upper Dir district, injuring 20 female students. Wahri Assistant Commissioner Aftab Alam reported that the incident occurred while classes were underway at the seminary, which had around 250 girls enrolled. All injured students were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Wahri for treatment, and they were reported to be out of danger.
