NEON has unveiled the first trailer for The Wrong Girls, an offbeat comedy starring Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat as two best friends whose lives take a surreal turn after discovering a mysterious experimental drug. Directed by Dylan Meyer in her feature directorial debut, the film follows Frankie (Stewart) and Molly (Shawkat), cannabis-loving friends whose codependent lifestyle is disrupted when Frankie mistakenly receives a briefcase containing glowing vials of an experimental psychedelic.
Telepathic Abilities and Danish Scientists
After taking the substance, the pair develop telepathic abilities that allow them to communicate with each other and even with their cats. Their newfound powers quickly attract unwanted attention from a group of dangerous Danish scientists determined to recover the missing drugs. As the unlikely duo attempts to evade their pursuers, they find themselves caught in an increasingly bizarre series of events involving conspiracies, talking animals, and escalating chaos.
Cast and Creative Team
The film features an ensemble cast including LaKeith Stanfield, Zack Fox, Tony Hale, Kate McKinnon, and Geena Davis. Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani lend their voices to Frankie and Molly's talking cats, adding another surreal element to the comedy. Meyer previously co-wrote Netflix's Moxie and described The Wrong Girls as a blend of friendship comedy, science fiction, and psychedelic adventure.
Speaking about the project, Stewart described the film as a deliberately absurd stoner comedy. Meyer said the story centers on two friends forced to confront adulthood after years of avoiding responsibility. The Wrong Girls is scheduled to open exclusively in cinemas on August 14, with the newly released trailer showcasing its eccentric humor and star-studded cast.
