Educational institutions across Punjab have swung their gates open today, marking the end of the annual winter vacation. Students and staff have returned to classrooms after a 30-day break that commenced on December 20, resuming the academic calendar for the new term.
Revised School Timings for Government Institutions
The Punjab Education Department has issued a formal notification detailing a revised schedule for government schools. This new timetable is set to be in effect for a significant period, from January 19 until April 15, 2026.
As per the official directive, the daily schedule for the upcoming months is as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: Schools will operate from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
- Friday: Schools will have a shorter day, closing at 12:15 PM.
Focus on Teacher Development and Curriculum
In a move aimed at elevating educational standards, the department has mandated specific duties for teaching staff alongside regular classes. From Monday to Thursday, teachers are required to participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions and engage in curricular preparation.
This initiative underscores a provincial focus on enhancing teaching methodologies and ensuring educators are well-prepared, which is expected to directly benefit student learning outcomes.
Resumption of Academic Activities
With the winter holidays now concluded, academic activities have officially resumed across all public and private sector institutions in the province. The return marks a busy period for the education sector, balancing classroom instruction with the newly outlined professional development commitments for teachers.
The coordinated reopening and the structured plan for the coming months reflect the Education Department's organized approach to managing the school calendar and investing in teacher capacity building.
