The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has invited applications for PhD scholarships under the Pakistan Knowledge Corridor Program for students planning to begin their studies at leading universities in the United States in 2027.
Scholarship Details and Eligibility
According to HEC, online applications are now open for PhD admissions at U.S. universities ranked among the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings. The commission clarified that the scholarship is available only for PhD programs. Master's and MS-to-PhD programs are not covered under the scheme. Applicants who secure admission in HEC's priority academic disciplines at U.S. universities will be given preference.
As per the schedule, the deadline for Spring and Summer 2027 admissions is October 30, 2026, while applications for Fall 2027 admissions must be submitted by March 30, 2027. Candidates can apply through HEC's online scholarship portal.
Two Categories of Scholarships
The commission said the scholarship has been divided into two categories. The first category is for students admitted to U.S. universities ranked among the top 50 in the QS World University Rankings. Successful applicants will receive full tuition fees according to the university invoice, an annual living stipend of $19,200, and health insurance worth $2,000 per year.
The second category is for candidates admitted to universities ranked between 51 and 100. Under this category, HEC will provide up to $12,000 per year for tuition fees, along with an annual stipend of $19,200 and health insurance of $2,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must be citizens of Pakistan or Azad Jammu and Kashmir and have completed at least 16 years of education, including a four-year bachelor's degree. They must have no second or third division in their academic record and should not be receiving any other scholarship. The maximum age limit is 35 years for general applicants, while government employees, permanent faculty members of public universities, and researchers at approved research institutions can apply up to the age of 40.
Test Requirements and Application Process
Applicants are also required to score at least 300 marks in the GRE General Test or obtain a minimum of 60 percent in the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT).
