KMU Launches Basic Medical Sciences Research Consortium to Boost Scientific Collaboration
Khyber Medical University (KMU) in Peshawar has taken a significant stride towards advancing medical research by convening the inaugural meeting of its newly formed Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) Research Consortium. This landmark initiative, held on Thursday, aims to foster a robust research culture and promote collaborative scientific efforts across the university's academic departments.
Inaugural Meeting Chaired by Dean Rubina Nazli
The pivotal gathering was chaired by Prof Dr Rubina Nazli, the Dean of Basic Medical Sciences at KMU. The meeting brought together directors and esteemed faculty members from key constituent institutes, including the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS), the Institute of Pathology and Diagnostic Medicine (IPDM), and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS). To ensure seamless institutional coordination, a representative from the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) also participated in the discussions.
Unanimous Agreement on Consortium's Importance
Participants at the meeting unanimously agreed that the establishment of a formal research consortium is essential for driving focused and high-impact research in the field of basic medical sciences. The consortium's primary objectives include:

- Strengthening KMU's national and international research profile

ORIC reaffirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive administrative and technical support to the consortium. Directors and faculty members welcomed the initiative enthusiastically and put forward constructive proposals for future joint projects, inter-departmental collaborations, and capacity-building programmes.
It was resolved that a second meeting will be held within two weeks to finalise a detailed working framework. This upcoming session will focus on identifying priority research areas and designing thematic research groups that involve multiple departments within KMU's Basic Medical Sciences.
Enhancing Global Visibility and Coordination
To boost global academic visibility and promote international engagement, the meeting agreed that consortium-related information and research data will be published on the university's official website. Additionally, to ensure effective coordination during the consortium's formation phase, focal persons were nominated from the participating institutes. These representatives will be responsible for:

- Facilitating collaboration among research teams
- Contributing to the development of the consortium's operational structure
