Punjab Deploys 30,000+ Police for Christmas, Quaid-e-Azam Day Security
Massive Police Deployment for Christmas Security in Punjab

The Punjab Police has unveiled a massive and detailed security strategy to ensure peaceful celebrations for Christmas and Quaid-e-Azam Day across the province. The plan involves the deployment of a formidable force of more than 30,000 police officers and personnel to safeguard over 2,900 churches and key venues.

Layered Security for Places of Worship

In a strategic move, all churches in Punjab have been meticulously classified into three categories based on their security sensitivity. According to an official spokesperson, 142 churches are in Category A (most sensitive), 291 in Category B, and more than 2,500 in Category C. This categorization allows for tailored security measures at each location.

Focusing on the provincial capital, Lahore, authorities will assign over 5,000 police personnel to provide security cover at more than 600 Christian places of worship. Additionally, over 1,000 personnel will be dedicated to Quaid-e-Azam Day events and programs.

High-Tech Vigilance and Specialized Units

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has issued strict directives to all Regional and District Police Officers to maintain the highest level of vigilance. He emphasized special attention to sensitive churches and constant alertness against anti-state elements.

The security apparatus will leverage technology and elite forces. Safe Cities Authority cameras will be used for continuous monitoring of events. At the most sensitive locations, commandos and snipers will be strategically positioned. Furthermore, women police personnel will be on duty to conduct security checks of female attendees.

Coordinated Operations and Interfaith Harmony

Proactive measures are already underway, with flag marches and search operations being conducted in the lead-up to Christmas. Patrols around churches and Christian neighborhoods will be intensified by the Dolphin Squad, Punjab Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Police teams.

In a critical intelligence-driven effort, teams from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to preemptively target terrorist and miscreant threats. IGP Anwar also stated that foolproof security would be extended to parks, recreational spots, foreign embassies, and all sensitive installations.

Highlighting the spirit of the season, Dr. Anwar noted that, with the cooperation of religious leaders from all schools of thought, efforts will be made to actively promote interfaith harmony during the Christmas celebrations.
