Bannu's historic library gets renovation plan after neglect

In a significant move for the cultural and educational landscape of Bannu, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Fahim has officially launched an ambitious plan to breathe new life into the district's historic Municipal Public Library. The century-old institution, which has suffered from years of neglect, is now slated for a comprehensive revival.

A Historic Institution Awaiting Revival

The library, originally established in 1905 as the Queen Victoria Library, has long been a cornerstone of learning and cultural heritage in the region. For several years, however, the facility has remained in a state of disrepair. The recent inspection by Deputy Commissioner Fahim has finally set the wheels in motion for its long-awaited restoration.

During his visit on Sunday, Fahim was accompanied by senior officials including Assistant Commissioner Wazir Subdivision Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad and Tehsil Municipal Officer Yousaf Khan. The team reviewed the proposed renovation plans on-site, with the deputy commissioner directing all relevant departments to expedite the implementation process.

Commitment to Intellectual Development

Emphasizing the project's core mission, Deputy Commissioner Fahim stated that fostering a book-friendly environment is essential for the intellectual growth of the younger generation. He declared that restoring the Municipal Public Library is a critical step towards promoting a sustainable culture of reading and learning in Bannu.

"We are committed to preserving our cultural heritage while providing modern facilities for students and citizens," Fahim said. He highlighted the library's profound historical and cultural significance, expressing confidence that the restored institution has the potential to become a vibrant hub for learning and intellectual discourse in the region.

A Modern Hub for Community Engagement

Officials detailed that the initiative is not merely a cosmetic refurbishment. The goal is twofold: to restore the library's original architectural character and to equip it with contemporary facilities and resources. The vision is to transform the space into a welcoming center that encourages community engagement, supports academic pursuits, and stimulates intellectual activity.

The renovation work is expected to be completed within a stipulated timeframe. Once finished, the revitalized Municipal Public Library is poised to once again serve as a premier center of knowledge and culture for the people of Bannu, bridging its storied past with the needs of the present and future.
