A high-level meeting was held in Peshawar to review the progress of master plans for major tourist destinations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The session was chaired by Dr. Abdul Samad, Secretary of the Culture, Tourism, Archaeology, and Museums Department.
Key Resorts Under Development
The meeting focused on creating integrated master plans for premier tourist spots in Swat and Hazara. In Swat, the resorts of Madiyan, Bahrain, Kalam, Mahudand, and Mankiyal are being developed. The Hazara division's plan includes the popular destinations of Naran, Kaghan, and Batakundi.
Senior officials, including the Director General of the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) and the Director General of the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA), attended the meeting. Representatives from the consulting firms responsible for the master plans were also present.
Focus on Sustainable Development
The consulting firms provided detailed updates on their work. They presented findings from site surveys and land-use assessments. The firms also shared infrastructure proposals and sustainable development models.
These models are designed to promote environmentally responsible tourism. A key goal is to ensure that local communities are included in the development process, making tourism growth inclusive.
Government's Vision for Tourism
Dr. Abdul Samad appreciated the quality of work and the milestones achieved so far. He stressed the importance of completing the final master planning reports on time.
He stated that these plans will act as comprehensive blueprints. Their aim is to transform Swat and Hazara into world-class tourism destinations. This transformation is expected to create new livelihood opportunities and ensure long-term, sustainable tourism growth in the province.
Dr. Samad highlighted that this initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The vision is to establish the province as a regional tourism hub by building eco-friendly, culturally rich, and economically viable tourism infrastructure.
He also pointed out the special focus of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi. The provincial government has prioritized the Malakand and Hazara Divisions for accelerated tourism development. Under the Chief Minister's direction, the department is ensuring close coordination among all stakeholders.
The ultimate goal is to turn these scenic valleys into sustainable tourism zones. They will be equipped with modern facilities, environmental safeguards, and improved accessibility for both local and international visitors.
Reaffirming the government's commitment, the Secretary expressed optimism that the implementation of these master plans will make these areas signature tourism destinations. This is expected to significantly boost economic growth and job creation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
