Turkish Embassy Honors Allama Iqbal in Islamabad

The Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Islamabad organized a significant cultural gathering to pay tribute to one of Pakistan's most revered figures, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, on his birth anniversary.

Celebrating the Great Poet of the East

The event, titled "Muhammad Iqbal: The Great Poet of the East," served as a powerful reminder of the poet-philosopher's enduring legacy. The celebration commenced with the inauguration of a special photo exhibition named "Common Heroes," which was expertly organized by the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre.

A distinguished group of officials presided over the exhibition opening. This included Ambassador Dr. Irfan Neziroğlu from Türkiye, alongside prominent Pakistani figures Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Nadeem, Chairman of the Rahmatul-lil-Alamin Authority, and Mr. Zulfiqar Cheema, Chairman of the Iqbal Council. Prof. Dr. Halil Toker, the Türkiye Coordinator for Yunus Emre Centres in Pakistan, was also a key part of the opening ceremony.

Speeches Highlighting a Deep Bond

In his address to the assembled guests, Ambassador Dr. Irfan Neziroğlu spoke passionately about the profound and long-standing friendship between Türkiye and Pakistan. He emphasized how Allama Iqbal's intellectual and spiritual work continues to inspire the entire Muslim world.

Adding to this, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Nadeem drew attention to a specific aspect of Iqbal's thought: his great admiration for Türkiye and his deep engagement with critical Islamic concepts like ijtihad (independent reasoning) and reform. Mr. Zulfiqar Cheema, in his tribute, focused on Iqbal's pivotal role in the spiritual reawakening of the Muslim Ummah.

Reaffirming a Shared Heritage

The entire event served as a vibrant platform to underscore the rich cultural and intellectual heritage that Türkiye and Pakistan proudly share. More than just a ceremonial occasion, it powerfully reaffirmed the strong bonds of mutual respect and friendship that unite the two nations, demonstrating that their connection is rooted deeply in shared history and values.
