PTA Warns: Using SIMs Registered to Others is Illegal, Owner Liable
PTA: SIMs Must Be in User's Name, Owner Fully Liable

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a stern warning to all mobile phone users across the country. The regulator has clarified that using a SIM card registered in another person's name is a direct violation of established rules and can lead to serious consequences.

PTA's Clear Directive on SIM Ownership

In an official statement released on Thursday, the telecom watchdog emphasized a critical rule: every mobile SIM must be used only by the individual in whose name it is registered. The authority explicitly stated that the practice of using a SIM registered to someone else is illegal. "Any SIM registered in the name of another individual and used by someone else is considered a violation of rules," the PTA declared.

Full Accountability Rests with the Registered User

The PTA placed the burden of responsibility squarely on the shoulders of the person whose name is on the subscription. The registered user will be held fully accountable for any and all misuse of that mobile connection. This includes liability for every phone call made, every message sent, and all data consumed through the SIM or the device it is used in.

The regulator advised all subscribers to practice responsible use of their telecommunications services. It is the user's duty to ensure they are only operating SIMs that are officially registered under their own identity.

Legal and Administrative Action for Non-Compliance

The PTA underscored that adherence to all relevant telecom regulations is mandatory. Failure to comply with these directives will not be taken lightly. The authority warned that legal or administrative action could be initiated against those found in violation of the SIM registration and usage rules.

This clarification from the PTA is part of broader, ongoing efforts by law enforcement and regulatory agencies to clamp down on criminal activities. Unregistered or improperly used SIM cards are often exploited to facilitate illegal actions, and this move aims to strengthen the traceability and accountability of every mobile connection in Pakistan.
