The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has announced a significant allocation of billions of rupees in the upcoming fiscal year's budget to enhance and expand the electricity transmission and distribution network in the merged tribal districts. This initiative is designed to integrate these historically marginalized regions into the national mainstream while fostering new employment opportunities through industrial and tourism growth.
Review Meeting on Power Sector Projects
A special meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmed to assess the progress of ongoing power sector development projects and discuss new proposals. The meeting was attended by Chairman Board of Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (TESCO) Engineer Naeem Khan, Chief Executive TESCO Engineer Tahir Jamal, and other senior department officials.
Detailed Review of Development Projects
The participants conducted a thorough review of various development projects funded by the provincial government to upgrade the electricity network in the merged tribal districts, including Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan. During the session, TESCO Board Chairman Engineer Naeem Khan agreed to allocate Rs300 million for new schemes aimed at improving the electricity network in these areas during the next fiscal year.
Concerns and Appreciation
Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmed expressed concern over the precarious law and order situation in the tribal regions but commended the encouraging recovery targets achieved by TESCO administration in electricity bill collections. He assured full cooperation and support from the Energy and Power Department for the successful implementation of power sector projects in the region.
