KE Removes 270kg Kunda Wires in Liaquatabad Anti-Theft Drive
KE Cracks Down on Power Theft in Liaquatabad

K-Electric has intensified its campaign against electricity theft in Karachi with a major operation targeting illegal connections in Liaquatabad. The power utility conducted coordinated raids across multiple high-loss areas to dismantle dangerous kunda networks that pose serious safety risks and cause substantial financial losses.

Massive Kunda Removal Operation

KE teams focused their efforts on several key locations including Supermarket, Sarafa Bazar, Batwa Nagar, and Bhandani Colony Blocks 1 and 2. During the extensive operation, nearly 270 kilograms of hazardous kunda wires were removed from the area. The utility disconnected over 150 illegal connections that were serving both residential and commercial properties.

The operation uncovered sophisticated theft methods, including the discovery of 3-core copper wiring illegally tapped from ML feeders to VHL feeders. This dangerous setup was immediately dismantled by KE technical teams to prevent potential accidents and infrastructure damage.

Significant Financial and Safety Impact

This anti-theft drive is expected to make a substantial impact on reducing electricity losses in the area. According to KE estimates, the operation will curb monthly power theft of approximately 20,000 units, which translates to nearly 240,000 units annually. The financial impact of these illegal connections was staggering, causing losses exceeding PKR 10 million each year.

Multiple consumers who had been relying on these unsafe kunda networks were successfully shifted back to regulated supply channels, ensuring they receive safe and reliable electricity through proper metering systems.

Public Safety Remains Top Priority

Imran Rana, KE Spokesperson, emphasized that illegal connections represent more than just revenue loss for the utility. "Illegal connections are more than theft; they pose a direct and severe threat to public safety," Rana stated. "These dangerous hooks can lead to electrocutions, fires, and extensive damage to our infrastructure, affecting thousands of customers."

The spokesperson confirmed that K-Electric remains committed to continuing these focused operations across Karachi to combat power theft comprehensively. The utility aims to ensure a safer and more dependable electricity network for all residents of the city through sustained anti-theft measures and public awareness campaigns.
