The President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has voiced strong confidence that the coming year will mark a significant economic turnaround for Pakistan. He believes 2024 will bring about economic revival, stability, and sustainable growth, aligning with the Prime Minister's vision and reform agenda.
A Critical Yet Promising Phase for the Economy
Speaking to various visiting delegations at the ICCI Chamber House on Thursday, Mehmood stated that Pakistan is entering a pivotal period. He emphasized that the nation's progress hinges on prudent economic policies, the continuity of reforms, and the restored confidence of the business community. For long-term economic resilience, he identified strengthening industry, boosting exports, and attracting investment as vital components.
Strong Defence as a Foundation for Growth
In his address, the ICCI President also paid a glowing tribute to the country's military leadership. He specifically acknowledged Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other Services Chiefs for their unwavering commitment and strategic leadership in fortifying Pakistan's defence. Mehmood articulated that a secure and strong Pakistan is the essential bedrock for fostering economic growth, building investor confidence, and ensuring overall national stability.
ICCI's Proactive Role as a Bridge
Sardar Tahir Mehmood reaffirmed the Chamber's dedication to acting as a proactive bridge between the government and the business sector. ICCI's role will focus on several key areas:
- Facilitating policy advocacy to create a business-friendly environment.
- Promoting both domestic and international trade and investment.
- Supporting initiatives designed for economic uplift.
He added that the Chamber will remain at the forefront of efforts to empower entrepreneurs, support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), encourage youth participation in business, and strengthen public-private partnerships. These efforts, he stated, are crucial to unlocking Pakistan's full economic potential.
The visiting delegations appreciated the leadership of ICCI and expressed their confidence that the Chamber would continue to be a driving force for economic development and business-friendly reforms in the country.
