The Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi conducted a comprehensive review of drainage arrangements across the city on Monday. The visit aimed to assess readiness for the upcoming monsoon season and ensure effective water drainage to prevent urban flooding.
Key Directions Issued
During the inspection, the MD directed field officials to remain vigilant and proactive. He emphasized the need for regular cleaning of stormwater drains and nullahs to facilitate smooth water flow. Strict instructions were given to remove encroachments and debris from drainage channels.
Focus on Vulnerable Areas
The MD specifically reviewed drainage systems in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. He ordered the deployment of heavy machinery and dewatering pumps at critical points to handle emergency situations. Officials were told to coordinate with the district administration and rescue departments for a swift response.
Public Safety Measures
To ensure public safety, the MD directed that warning signs be placed near open drains and manholes. He also stressed the importance of timely disposal of solid waste to avoid blockages. Citizens were urged to refrain from throwing garbage into drains, which could exacerbate flooding.
The WASA MD assured that all necessary resources would be allocated to complete pre-monsoon preparations within the stipulated timeline. He warned of strict action against negligence and delay in drainage maintenance work.
