Security forces and the district administration have destroyed opium crops spread over hundreds of acres during a coordinated anti-narcotics operation in the Tirah Valley, officials said on Friday. The operation, carried out jointly by the Frontier Corps, Tirah Militia, local police and the district administration, targeted multiple localities where illegal cultivation had been reported.
Operation Details
According to officials, the crackdown was conducted in Upper Bara, Tor Dara, Sandana and Swakh Ghari, following intelligence-based search and clearance operations. The action, which lasted several hours, resulted in the complete destruction of large-scale opium cultivation in the area.
Leadership and Participation
The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Tirah, Mr Anwar, and supervised by senior officials, including the tehsildar of Tirah, officers of the Tirah Militia, and the local wing commander of the Frontier Corps, Lieutenant Colonel Waqas. Personnel from the Tirah Maidan police also took part in the drive.
Challenges and Commitment
Officials noted that conducting such operations in the valley’s rugged and mountainous terrain posed considerable challenges, but reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating illegal cultivation. They added that sustained action would be taken against narcotics networks to prevent the production and smuggling of drugs.
“The objective is not only to enforce the law but also to safeguard the younger generation from the devastating effects of narcotics,” an official said. The administration reiterated that similar operations would continue across the region as part of a broader campaign against drug-related activities.
