Punjab's Agricultural Revolution: 800,000 Kissan Cards & Rs. 250B Loans Issued
Maryam Nawaz Unveils Historic Farmer Support Initiatives

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has declared that a transformative agricultural revolution is sweeping the province, driven by the vision of PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. This historic push aims to empower the farming community and liberate them from the clutches of exploitative middlemen.

Historic Financial Support for Farmers

In a significant announcement, the Chief Minister revealed that over 800,000 farmers have received Kissan Cards for the first time in Pakistan's history. Accompanying this landmark initiative is the disbursement of a record Rs. 250 billion in interest-free loans within a single year. This unprecedented financial injection is designed to provide farmers with the capital they need without the burden of interest.

How the Kissan Card is Changing the Game

The core function of the Kissan Card scheme is to create a direct link between farmers and agricultural suppliers. Instead of relying on costly intermediaries, farmers can now use their cards to purchase fertilizer, seeds, and pesticides directly from registered dealers. The government has registered hundreds of dealers across Punjab to facilitate this new system, significantly boosting local agri-business activity.

An additional benefit of the card has emerged, with around 20 percent of farmers utilizing it to buy diesel. This access to essential fuel helps them avoid falling into cycles of debt and high-interest borrowing for their operational needs.

A Vision for a Prosperous Farming Community

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif paid tribute to the hard work of Punjab's farmers, stating they are the benefactors of the entire nation. "Punjab’s farmer is the benefactor of the entire country and his hard work cannot be fully repaid," she said. "All resources are available for our farmers, and we want to take agricultural development to its peak. Prosperous farmers of Punjab are my dream."

In a separate but somber note, the CM also expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident near Nankana Sahib. She extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and urged citizens to strictly adhere to traffic and safety regulations, especially during travel in dense fog.
