Five Killed, 23 Injured in Punjab Rain, Windstorm

LAHORE - At least five people were killed and 23 others injured in rain and windstorm-related incidents across Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to Rescue Punjab spokesperson Farooq Ahmad. Two people lost their lives in separate lightning strike incidents in Narowal, while one person was killed after a tree fell on Nandipur-Sialkot Road in Gujranwala. In Lahore, one person died from electrocution in Kot Khawaja Saeed, and a motorcyclist was killed when a tree fell on Canal Road in Harbanspura.

Nature of Injuries and Damage

Most injuries were caused by collapsing walls, falling trees, signboards, solar panels, and downed electricity lines. Lahore reported multiple casualties, including four people injured after an 11kV power line collapsed near Shadiwal Chowk. Rescue officials shifted all seriously injured victims to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Security Directives and Public Advisory

Punjab also issued security directives for the Data Darbar Ghusl ceremony. Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions and contact the Rescue 1122 helpline in case of emergencies.
